GlobalMed CEO Joel E. Barthelemy named to Becker's Great Leaders in Healthcare 2026
GlobalMed®, infrastructure for distributed care, today announced that founder and CEO Joel E. Barthelemy has been named to Becker's Healthcare Great Leaders in Healthcare 2026 in the CEOs and Founders of Healthcare Companies category. The recognition appears in Becker's Hospital Review.
Two decades of expanding access to care
A Marine Corps Reserve veteran, Barthelemy founded one of the world's first virtual care companies in 2002, inspired by his veteran father's difficulty accessing care in a rural area. Under his leadership, GlobalMed has supported nearly 100 million consultations across 60+ countries, building a fully integrated platform that combines software, integrated medical devices, and connected care stations to support the full continuum of care, from low-acuity video visits to high-acuity, specialty, and complex scenarios.
Infrastructure behind the world's most demanding health programs
That infrastructure powers some of the world's largest and most advanced digital health programs, including the White House Medical Unit, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Defense Health Agency. The platform holds Authority to Operate on U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) networks and has connected patients to expert care in disaster zones, on battlefields, in Antarctic research stations, and in caves 100 feet underground.
Recent milestones
Recent milestones include a partnership with the Colombian Armada and an Indigenous organization to integrate digital health with tribal systems, and AI advances in GlobalMed's eNcounter® software spanning image recognition, triage, and ambient listening.
"This recognition belongs to the veterans, clinicians, partners, and team members who have carried this mission with us for more than two decades. Our work has never been about technology for its own sake. It is about reaching the patient who would otherwise go unreached, wherever they are."
Joel E. Barthelemy, founder and CEO, GlobalMed
